As you (the faithful visitors of my website) may have noticed, I abandoned
this website for the past 10 months or so. I guess the main reason was I
just lost interest and did not have the time to maintain it. It's kind of
like forgetting to take your car for regular oil change and eventually there is
a point of no return.
I tried to post a blog entry a few days ago. I typed up everything and
clicked "submit" and ... nothing!! I remembered that there is some
database issue preventing the posting of blog entries. BUMMER!!!
I popped a Red Bull and started researching the root cause. Couple of
more Red Bulls down the throat and a few hours later, I found the
problem. Sequences were all wrong for blog entries in the DB. I
bumped up the sequences and posted a test entry and I was back in
business.
So now, what is next? Well, I'm getting ready to take control of this
website again. That means posting blog entries more often and perhaps adding
more content.
To revamp the site I went to Drupal.org (that's the CMS I use) to look for more
goodies. I'm running on Drupal 5 and I noticed Drupal 6.0 beta 2 is
currently posted for testing. I expect another beta to come out in a few
days. I will wait until the final release before upgrading.
Drupal 6 supports both PHP 4 and PHP 5 but future version won't support PHP
4. There is also an effort in the open source community to end support
for PHP 4 by February 5, 2008.
This is enough to get me on board. My latest interest is in web services
and other technology that use XML for communication. PHP 5 has native
support for XML
which is a century ahead of the support in previous version.
I opened a ticket with my hosting provider to inquire if they can upgrade me
to PHP 5 from 4. now I just need to keep my fingers closed and hoping
that this website comes back online after the upgrade. Otherwise I'll be
spending late nights trying to fix any issues. Either way I'm going to
get this site working on PHP 5 =)
As for the title of this blog, Halloween is only a few days ways so that's
the bes I could think of that suited the mood.
